Tricuspid Stenosis
Triscuspid stenosis – Is restriction of the tricuspid valve orifice
due to commissural fusion and fibrosis.
Causes
- Rheumatic fever
- Mitral valve diseases
Clinical features
- Dyspnoea, nocturnal dyspnoea and orthopnoea
- Haemoptysis
- Visible pulsation of neck veins
- Murmurs
- Symptoms of right sided heart failure
diagnostic evaluation
- E.C.G. May reveal atrial fibrillation
- Cardiac Catheterization and angiography to confirm
the diagnosis
Treatment
1.
Correct mitral and aortic diseases if present.
2.
Surgical treatment to correct the valve
Tricuspid Incompetence
Tricuspid incompetence allows regurgitation
of blood; from the right ventricle into the right atrium during ventricular
systole.
Clinical Feature
1.
Right sided heart failure
2.
Oedema – with congestion of the liver and hepatic malfunction, ascites
and hydrothorax.
3.
Elevated venous pressure.
4.
Atrial fibrillation –
5.
Pansystolic murmur in tricuspid area.
Treatment
1.
Surgical treatment of mitral valve disease or combined mitral and aortic
valve diseases – may reverse pulmonary hypertension and produce disappearance
of tricuspid regurgitation.
2.
Replacement of tricuspid valve may be indicated.
Complication
1.
Heart failure
2.
Bacterial endocarditis
